Hi, I am Michael J. Maher of The Maher Team. Welcome to our site. Here is some personal information about myself. I was born and raised in the Kansas City area thirty-four years ago. Born in Gardner, Kansas, I graduated from Gardner-Edgerton High School. I graduated with honors as Computer Science and English Student of the Year and also broke 22 school records while quarterbacking my high school team to a state playoff appearance. With the assistance of baseball and academic scholarships, I graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and minors in English and Computer Science. Upon my graduation from KU, I pursued a career in education, teaching mathematics at a suburban high school. During the summer after my second year of teaching and coaching, I decided to get a real estate license to supplement my income. After two more years, my real estate business proved to be too much to handle while teaching. After months of internal debate, I decided to quit teaching mathematics and began teaching people how to buy a home and sell their home.

I have a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from Baker University. My extensive marketing background has already paid dividends in real estate and my thesis was on the emotions you go through during your relocation. I participate in other hobbies such as reading non-fiction, collecting Porsche models (and tinkering with my real world one), and developing Web sites. I also stay active by golfing, playing competitive slow-pitch softball, and lifting weights.

I am proud to say Kansas City is my home and I will be here forever. It would be great if I could make this great city your home also.

Curb Appeal >Trees Improve Energy Efficiency Mature trees add "curb appeal" to a property and can make a home more energy efficient. Planted at the edges of a building, a tree's broad canopy of leaves softens the hard lines of architecture and offers shade. Trees absorb light reflected from the roof and decrease the air temperature surrounding your home through evaporation of moisture. The positioning of trees and shrubs around your home has a significant effect on how much you'll be paying to heat and cool your house each month. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, even one strategically placed tree can reduce your heating and cooling bill up to 25 percent. In general, deciduous trees planted on the south and west sides of the house keep the home cool during the summer and allow low-angle sun into the home during the winter. If you live on a windy hill or coastal bluff, planting evergreen trees or shrubs on the north and west sides of your structure will help protect your home from winter gusts and storms.
